What's the first thing you do when you want more website traffic? Create content pages!

Anyone who cares about getting visitors to their site from the search engines (for free) must be prepared to create content pages - many of them. Most of us don't have the luxury of having a well-known brand name or a large advertising budget. You cannot compete with other websites in your field with sales pages alone. Even 'fun' sites or 'hobby' sites must create valuable content in order to be found at all!

What is Content?

For the purposes of this article, content is what people and search engines are most interested in - information. It's the text, links and pictures on your pages.

Good content that provides valuable information people are searching for will be well-liked by both search engines and people. On the other hand, content that provides information that is not valuable to people will be avoided like the plague by both.

If I had to choose one activity to recommend to you that would increase the visitors on your local business or hobby website I would say: "Create content pages!" It's that important.

Creating Content Pages to Attract More Visitors:

• Determine who you want to attract to your site. Who are your customers? Write it down. Seriously!
• Create a profile of your average website visitor. Is this average visitor male or female? What age range is he or she in? What is his or her financial situation? Fill in as many details as possible here.
• Decide upon a niche for your site that will be of interest to your target visitor.
• Find out what people are searching for in your site's niche by doing keyword research.
• Create valuable articles based on what keywords people are searching for in your site's niche. One keyword or keyword phrase serves as the topic of one web page.
• Write all the articles as if you were talking directly to your target visitor and he or she was sitting right in front of you.
• Create MANY articles. One keyword or keyword phrase that your target visitor is searching for serves as the topic of one web page.

If you do the above you will be way ahead of the average small business or hobby website. Most small local business websites have nothing but sales pages and product or service descriptions.

People prefer to do business with people they like and trust. How do you get a website visitor to like and trust you? Create content pages that provide the information they are looking for in friendly way. That's all. It's simple. Your visitors come to your site and read some of your good information. They start to like you and respect your opinion. At that point they are in a much better state of mind to participate with your hobby site or buy something from your business site.

You know your business. You are the best person to write original content with valuable information that people and search engines appreciate. If you don't have the time to create content hire someone. Good content will draw visitors for months or years to come. It's well worth it.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from content generators. These things create pages that are just poor attempts to trick search engines and people. They don't work in the long run. Additionally, you may get your site banned from a search engine or two.
